Kingori
Tom Wanderi of Alliance High School and Kivuva Angela Nzisa of Moi High
School Kabarak were the top performing boy and girl in the 2013 Kenya
Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.
Wanderi who
scored an average of 87.11 percent was followed by Aloo Shem of Maranda
High School who was the second best performing student nationally.
Alliance High School and Moi High School Kabarak were the best performing schools overall followed by Precious Blood Riruta and Kapsabet Boys.
There was an overall decline in the 2013 KCSE examination performance compared to 2012 with 123,365 scoring C+ required for admittance into University.

2013 KCSE Results out Monday (March 3rd 2014)
The
Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced that the Kenya
Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results for 2013
will be released on Monday, March 3, 2014.
As
is tradition the Education, Science and Technology Cabinet Secretary
Jacob Kaimenyi is expected to officially release the results at Mitihani
House.
The
candidates and their parents will be glued on TV screens or listening
to radio broadcasts to catch the names of the top students and schools
that will be announced by Prof. Kaimenyi.
The
446,969 candidates who sat the examination in 7,606 centres countrywide
will then be able to access their results via Short Message Service
(SMS) and on www.knec.ac.ke immediately after.
"To access the 2013 KCSE examination results, send the candidate’s index number to 22252," an announcement from KNEC read.
Those whose results have been cancelled on suspicion of cheating will be notified through writing.
"Heads are expected to inform candidates and parents/guardians whose results have been withheld or cancelled to avoid a situation where they travel all the way to the council," the statement continued to state.
Once the results are released, candidates will have until April 4 to appeal for remarking or to raise any discrepancies in the results.
"Upon receipt of the examination results, thoroughly scrutinise the results for correctness and ensure accuracy of, the names, index number and gender; school name and code; and individual subjects," the council urged.
While 10,620 more candidates sat the KCSE examination in 2013 than 2012, there were numerous reported cases of exam cheating.
Just a day after the exam started on October 22, 2013, four students were charged in a Mombasa court for illegally being in possession of examination material and for being in possession of a mobile phone inside an examination room.
Two days later, two other students were arrested again in Mombasa for the same offences.
KNEC Chief Executive Officer Paul Wasanga also announced the arrest of 20 university students and three principals in connection with exam cheating during the 2013 examination.
"Many of the cases have been reported to us by the concerned stakeholders who include the public and candidates themselves through SMS, email, telephone and some have walked to our offices to give us information on cheating in examinations which is very commendable," Wasanga said at the time.
The timely release of the results was then threatened by teachers who said they would not mark the papers due to poor conditions in marking centres and poor pay but this was eventually resolved.
In 2012 Tony Edgar of Maseno High School was the top KCSE candidate with a mean score of 89.86 followed by Oliver Kiarie of Maranda High School and Victor Borona of Alliance High School who came in second and third respectively in results released by the late Mutula Kilonzo, Education Minister at the time, a month before he died.

To check your KCSE (class of 2013) results by SMS send an SMS with your Index Number from Safaricom, Airtel or Orange to 22252.
Candidates should visit their examination centers for their official
results slip. At the same time parents and pupils should check the
results for any anomaly such as incorrect candidate’s name, school name
and code as well as wrong subject grade and report to KNEC within a
month after the announcement.
